When a provider or user attempts to access a patient’s personal health information (PHI) in an application, HIPAAT’s policy decision point, Privacy eSuite, determines whether or not the user is authorized to access the PHI, based on existing consent directives and policies. Once Privacy eSuite makes that determination, policy enforcement is activated by the Privacy Manager or equivalent application.
